There’s something special going on in Phi Beta Sigma, especially in the state of Illinois! If you haven’t already seen it, please visit the Phi Beta Sigma Illinois Facebook page. We have been recognizing our recent college graduates and leaders throughout the state. Please “like” the page and encourage other brothers to do so as well. However, we’d like to do more with that page. Let’s show the world all the good things that members of our organization are doing. Some things that you might share with the Facebook page include: chapter community service projects, job promotions, attaining higher education, and leadership positions in and out of Sigma. Please share such information with PBSillinois@gmail.com. Ideally, this page will highlight all of the good things that are going on in our state and bring us closer together as ONE organization with various chapters.
Be one of the one hundred. Join the 100 Sigma men and Sigma Betas in the Bud Billiken parade in honor of our 100 year celebration. Let’s keep the centennial celebration momentum going. Please register and order your T-shirt today at http://pbs-budbilliken.eventbrite.com As well, please help spread the word and encourage every brother you know to participate. This is our chance to celebrate our centennial locally on a large scale. Brothers who were not able not make it to DC, and for brothers who were included in the number, the Bud Billiken Parade is a great follow up activity for us to continue our centennial celebration. Brothers from around the country, including our State and Regional Directors will be in attendance. See you there!
We’re happy to announce that the State Conference will occur Saturday September 13, 2014 at the University of Illinois Springfield. This will be a State Conference unlike any other in recent years. As we organize the agenda, adhering to the feedback from previous State Directors and the state survey, our goals for State Conference include the following: 1) To provide appropriate trainings and certifications for chapters to function effectively.
2) Make an asserted effort to focus brothers attention on the reporting tools, risk/liability/ threats to our organization, and membership growth.
3) Impact the local host community through service.
4) Provide leisure activities for brothers to get to know one another.
I think brothers will be pleasantly surprised to see some of the new aspects of the State Conference. Some new features of the State Conference will include the Sigma Symposium, a step/stroll clinic, and the Sigma Man of the Year award. Registration for the State Conference will be shared soon. M.I.P. training will be provided for brothers at the State Conference as the M.I.P. intake window for this fall will run September 8, 2014 – November 16, 2014.
Lastly, we are organizing a leadership conference for Sigma Betas throughout the state of Illinois. The Sigma Beta Leadership Conference will occur in tandem with our State Conference in Springfield Illinois on September 13, 2014. Ideally, we can provide the conference to our Sigma Betas for a minimal cost. In an effort to minimize cost to chapters and brothers, we’ve started a campaign to raise funds for this conference. Let’s rally our friends and family around our campaign of mentoring young men and helping them develop leadership and communication skills.
Kudos to Epsilon Chi Sigma and Iota Nu Sigma for organizing exceptional networking socials recently. Pier Pressure and Blue Tuesday provided fantastic opportunities for brothers, sorors, and friends to mix and mingle. Moreover, congratulations to Omicron Alpha Sigma on a successful bowling event that raised money for scholarships and for exceeding their goal of raising $1,914 for Relay For Life.
Our cause speeds on brothers. If you have any feedback or for more information, please contact me directly at email@example.com
See you soon,
Richard “Ricardo” Brown
Phi Beta Sigma Illinois State Director
